The LAMY dialog is a ground-breaking capless fountain pen with retractable nib and clip. Half a turn and the sophisticated 14 carat gold nib glides out of the pen while the massive clip retracts onto the barrel. The LAMY dialog represents a successful symbiosis of the most innovative writing instrument technology and the most progressive design of our time.

The LAMY Dialog Fountain Pen is the recipient of the iF Industrie Forum Design award, the oldest independent design seal in the world and a symbol of outstanding design achievement - as well as the Good Design Award and the red dot Design Award.

The nib 

The LAMY Dialog Fountain Pen comes with a 14 carat bi-colour gold nib, partially platinum. Provides an especially elastic writing experience. Produces a round and balanced typeface. 

The pen casing

Fountain pen with twist-action mechanism, lacquer or palladium finish. High-quality materials with all models, from the nib to the clip: gold, platinum or palladium. 

Retractable nib/clip technology

The first capless fountain pen with retractable nib and clip. Gentle twist mechanism retracts the nib with its innovative ball valve that protects the 14k nib from dirt as well as protecting the pen from drying out. 

Originally called the "LAMY Dialog 3", the LAMY Dialog Fountain Pen was a member of a trio of specially designed LAMY pens covered in a high-quality palladium finish, it became known as of one of LAMY's most distinctive and revolutionary pens.    

Despite multiple prior fountain pens using some form of push button technology in the 60s, Dr. Manfred Lamy gave designer Franco Clivio who worked with LAMY on the highly successful LAMY pico, a very clear task: "Clivio, I would like a capless fountain pen with a retractable nib." That resulted in the dialog 3, the world's first capless fountain pen, which also retracts the clip.    

Close cooperation between the designer and Lamy productiion engineers allowed for the creation of distinct touches in the Dialog 3, such as the use of a spherical valve clasp to hide and protect the retractable nib.

The LAMY Dialog fountain pen is designed to work with LAMY T10 ink cartridges, or the Z26/Z27 ink converter that is recommended to be filled with LAMY bottled ink (T51, T52, or T53).
