The LAMY Swift is another fine design example of LAMY's BauHaus design philosophy, where form follows function and designs borne out of needs.    

Rollerballs are known as a "good middle ground" between Fountain Pens and Ballpoint Pens. Ideally taking the best of both -- the smooth, fluid, light writing of a fountain pen, combined with the handiness and ease of storage of a ballpoint. What is often missed is are the practical difficulties of using rollerballs in the day to day -- it needs a cap and it needs to be "watched." Leave the cap off and rollerballs can dry quicker. Forget the cap and put it in your pocket, and you might end up with a shirt or pants pockets blotted with ink.    

This is where the LAMY Swift comes into its own. Together with its innovative ink that does not dry out quickly, LAMY Swift retractable mechanism "reminds" the user when the pen is not in the "storage mode." When the push button is depressed to write, the clip simultaneously retracts into the pen body. You will not be able to "clip" it onto your shirt or pants - reminding you that your pen is not "ready for storage." Simple yet innovative!
